There are two vineyards included in this wine. The majority, 70%, is 22 years old grown on sand over clay in the stump hill region of McLaren Vale. The 30% balance is from old vines from of the highest part of Blewitt Springs. Both parcels were whole berry fermented. The influence they contribute to this wine has more to do with its style. The Blewitt Springs parcel was de-stemmed into a 1200L French oak open fermenter. This vessel had 30% fresh oak and the fruit was fermented in an inert atmosphere for a period of 4 weeks and then left for 6 months on skins. It was then basket pressed and put back into the same vessel for a total of 12 months.
The resulting wine has a confectionery berry lift with a mahogany polish French oak. Complex but the primary fruit shows aromas while the palate has generous rounded fruit, with a follow up of a serious generous luscious red fruit, oak and carbonic macerated secondary characters.
