There are two vineyards included in this wine. The majority, 70% is 22 year old grown on sand over clay in the stump hill region of Mclaren Vale, the 30% balance is old vines from of the highest region of Blewitt Springs both vineyards where whole berry fermented. The influence they contribute to this wine as has more to do with it’s style. The Blewitt springs parcel was de-stemed into a 1200L french oakopen fermenter. This vessels had 30 % fresh oak and the fruit was fermented under inert atmosphere for a period of 4 weeks and then left for 6 months on skins. It was then basket pressed and put back into the same vessel for a total of 12 months.
The resulting wine has a confectionery berry lift with a mahogany polish french oak. Complex but the primary fruit shows aromas while the palate has generous rounded fruit, with a follow up of a serious generous luscious red fruit, oak and carbonic macerated secondary characters.
