2013 OLD VINE SHIRAZ
Every vintage winemaking practices guide the fruit into a reflection of sunshine, rain and soil. The hope is that the fruit shines with great characters reflecting the vintage. Every year the best fruit goes into a variety of different barrels. These barrels are then tasted and a decision is made on the assignment to different lables. The barrels that make the old vine Shiraz are specifically chosen from a large selection. Coincidence or not, a selection resulted from 10 barrels from a 65 year old vineyard. The barrels selected are based upon fruit expression and integration and characters from barrel maturation. The result is 100% extra fine and fine grained French oak. The portion of new is 40% while the remainder are 1 and 2 year old. Aromas of red fruit, spice and pepper pairs with complex, elegant and intense flavours. These characters shine with subtle oak influence. A very serious and powerful wine that shall blossom with bottle age.
